This Week in Politics

president_ghanaThis week the President and his family visited Ghana in Africa, Russia and The Pope in Italy. It was a new beginning in our relationships
with these countries.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and President Barack Obama signed documents to reduce nuclear arms at the Kremlin in Moscow Monday, July 6, 2009.

Watching the two of them sign this document I could feel they were both sincere and it gave me hope for our future together.

Then the President and his family went to Italy and met with Pope Benedict the XV. It must have been so inspirational to walk through the Vatican. obamas_pope

The last part of their trip was the most significant because it was the first time a African American President stepped foot in the country of Ghana. Crowds gathered everywhere to see him and wave the American flag. He addressed the Ghanaian Parliament with a speech entitled, “A New Moment of Promise.” This is a part of what he said to the Parliament. “It is a great honor for me to be in Accra and to speak to the representatives of the people of Ghana. I am deeply grateful for the welcome that I’ve received, as are Michelle and Malia and Sasha  ObGHANA OBAMAama.  Ghana’s history is rich, the ties between our two countries are strong, and I am proud that this is my first visit to sub-Saharan Africa as President of the United States of America.”

He spoke honestly as well that we are willing to help them in anyway and also noted the need for Africans to take control and responsibility for their successes and failures.

For America and the world,
it was a very historical and inspiration week.

I included a video of the President throwing out the first pitch at the all star game this week, what stood out to me is it shows his he is still in touch with the common man and not just the ones with status, you will know what I mean when he goes over to the golf cart with one of the greatest St. Louis players ever to get the ball to throw out.

Until next week,
Take Care,
Dolly Loving
