What can you do when your life feels overwhelming? Unfortunately nobody else can do your emotional work for you. You will have to reach deep down inside yourself and find your own answers. The next time you feel overwhelmed by your life and and the ability to meet its challenges, try using loving kindness.
Try meeting these feelings of being overwhelmed and anxiety with kindness, friendliness and compassion. Whether you practice your mediation informally or formally, find a peaceful place and let the feelings of kindness roll over you like a gentle wave.
Think of a special person in your life, like your best friend and rest in the warmth and tender feelings you have for this person.
Then say to yourself,
May I be free of my fear,
May I have courage,
May I experience great success,
May I accept the challenge of the task.
The next time these challenges arise, remember how you felt doing this loving kindness meditation and you will find yourself in a better place to handle the challenges life often brings our way.
