SHARING A POWERFUL PRAYER

jesusHave you ever hit rock bottom? Have you ever felt like you were trapped in a dark abyss and you could not get out? Have you ever reached that point in your life when you wanted to give up and turn your back?

We have been taught the “Our Father” as THE prayer we all should say every single day. After all, this was the prayer that Jesus taught us. But then, there is one more prayer… far too powerful than any other prayer we all have learned.

On the night he was betrayed, Jesus unashamedly admitted to his disciples that: “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death.” This was the Son of God and yet he was troubled, afraid, and anxious despite knowing the fact that his imminent death was predestined. With a heart full of sorrow, he knelt before God in the Garden of Gethsemane and prayed:

“My Father, if it is possible,

may this cup be taken from me.

Yet not as I will,

but as YOU will.”

Matthew 26:39, NIV

These words may seem simple and plain. But these are the same words that Jesus uttered at a time of great distress. Even the Son of God experienced grief and fear at one point in his life. This is the same prayer that I carried in my heart for nearly 20 long years and helped me get through the worst tragedy that one can ever imagine.

I am not religious. Neither am I a saint. And you don’t have to be a Catholic, Protestant or a Christian to say this prayer. If you want, you can change some words in this prayer to suit your own personal belief. What matters most is that you mean each word from the heart as you utter it.

But allow me to explain that this does not promise a panacea to all of your pain and suffering. It will not be able to resurrect the dead or accomplish the impossible. It’s not an overnight remedy to all your woes.

This prayer will, however, give you calmness in the midst of chaos, clarity amidst great confusion, gratitude despite of emptiness, relief from a deep searing pain, and a forgiving heart in the face of injustice just like it did to me. This is the prayer for acceptance, healing and peace within us.  After all, if it worked for Jesus, it will surely work for all of us.

Much Blessings to all of you,

Bing
