It’s not even Thanksgiving and in America the stores are already touting Christmas like it’s happening tomorrow. Our local greeting card store has had their Christmas ornaments up since June. Our economy has tanked and all the big corporate stores can think of is their precious bottom line. What about sharing the wealth with those that are suffering through the hard times these same said corporate types have created?
Christmas is a time of giving, not spending. It’s a time of sharing and good will towards your fellow man, but that has all gotten lost in the commercialism of a holiday that was meant to be a celebration of the birth of Christ, not how much booty a child can get from a fictional elf that was also originally created to foster good will not greed.
Please put aside those lists of people that you feel you must give an overpriced gift to and take the time to offer something money can’t buy, your time, your caring, and most off all a shared love of just spending time with people you might otherwise not even communicate with if it wasn’t for this holiday. Better yet give a little something to those less fortunate than you, it’s the best feeling you will ever know.
